After all the money AIG's had shoveled at it, why does it need another $10 billion? Because, as the Wall Street Journal reports, the money its gotten from the government are supposed to pay off its bad CDS bets -- essentially, the money went to retiring the underlying CDO.

To most Americans, the Federal Reserve is just another name on their dollar bill. They don't know that this central bank controls America's entire economic system. Created with no constitutional authority in 1913, the Fed prints money out of thin air and loans it to the U.S. treasury at interest. What does this lead to? Inflation and debt.

American International Group Inc. said Wednesday it received $40 billion from the Treasury Department as part of the government's latest plan to help the embattled insurer stay in business. The money will come from the Treasury's $700 billion financial services investment program that is aimed as improving the ongoing turmoil in the credit markets.
